What no one tells you about Airtags and Smart tags

The 2 most common tags used by people to track things are Apple Air tags and Samsung Smart tags. One thing that I have found that is not made clear to anyone is that these tags DO NOT give you a live up-to-date location. An Apple Air tag will only give you an update on its location when it comes within range of an “iphone” that has both “Bluetooth and data” turned on. And it must specifically be an Apple iphone and nothing else. in that instance it will then report its location to you. if the tag is then moved to a new location and it never comes near an iphone again you will only ever see its last reported location. Same goes for the Samsung smart tag. It must come within range of a Samsung phone. Not just any Android phone. So if you put a tag on your car and someone without that specific brand of phone on them steals it and takes it for a 200km drive in the country then returns it before you wake up, you would never know it was gone or where it went.
